SUMMARY:Opera Lafayette presents Scarlatti | Geminiani
DESCRIPTION:  \nBased off of Torquato Tasso’s epic poem—Jerusalem Delivered\, a classic tale of love\, bravery\, and combat. Although the poem traditionally takes place during the first crusades\, this performance sets the story in India during the reign of the Mughal Empire. The titular princess seeks refuge from the wounds of love in the midst of battle. Will she find solace and safety? Enchantresses are conjured to keep the wood of the forest from being used for weapons – will the charm be broken? This embodiment of magic will leave you spellbound.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Festival: Le Trio Joubran
DESCRIPTION:“Among the most inventive musicians in the Arab world\,” (Guardian\, U.K.) Nazareth-born brothers Samir\, Wissam\, and Adnan Joubran seamlessly blend traditional Arabic music with inflections derived from jazz\, rock\, and flamenco. At this intimate performance\, they pay tribute to one of their most influential collaborators—the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish who died in 2008. Reading his poem “The Dice Player\,” among others\, Darwish’s recorded voice floats over the trio’s winding melodies while images and the poem’s words are projected\, sparking a soulful dialogue between worlds.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Festival: To The End Of The Land
DESCRIPTION:A theater phenomenon that played to sold-out houses around Israel\, this drama based on David Grossman’s critically acclaimed novel explores the intertwining threads of love and family between Ora\, Ilan\, and Avram\, who meet as teenagers in a hospital during the Six-Day War in 1967. \nDecades later\, when Ora’s son volunteers to go to the Lebanese front\, she escapes with Avram to Galilee\, clinging to the superstitious hope that if she can’t be found\, she can’t be “notified” of her son’s death. In director Hanan Snir’s poignant staging\, the characters’ ultimately aimless journey\, with no defined destination and a constant intrusion of the past\, becomes a conduit for the unrelenting sense of existential fragility at the heart of the human condition.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Festival: While I Was Waiting
DESCRIPTION:Digging into the story of one middle-class Damascus family\, the celebrated Syrian team of playwright Mohammad Al Attar and director Omar Abusaada offer a gripping portrait of a country trapped in a gray area between hope and despair. \nBrutally beaten at a checkpoint\, 30-year-old Taim is admitted to the hospital in a coma. As his loved ones gather around him\, they must face a reality defined by uncertainty and absence. What happened to Taim? Will he ever wake up? How has their vibrant\, modern city become so strange and cruel? Unable to communicate\, Taim lingers on the stage\, an observer and commentator\, as long-buried secrets and complicated relationships are revealed. \nInspired by a true story\, the play weaves together different layers of consciousness\, humanizing the situation in Syria and collapsing the distance between the Syrian people and the rest of the world.

SUMMARY:Lincoln Center Festival: Opening Skinner's Box
DESCRIPTION:Why do we love? When would we kill? How do we learn? Why do we believe in the unbelievable? \nWith their trademark mix of wit\, insight\, and inventive stagecraft\, Britain’s Improbable Theatre takes us on a “fascinating\, if at times alarming” (Times\, U.K.) tour of ten famous 20th-century psychological experiments\, starting with B.F. Skinner’s notorious rat boxes. Inspired by Lauren Slater’s acclaimed book\, Opening Skinner’s Box is a time-traveling dialogue with the audacious scientists who set out to unlock the secrets of human behavior. Amidst ethically questionable methods\, shocking results\, and blinding biases\, one thing becomes abundantly clear: Everything we thought we knew about ourselves is wrong.
